Reporting and Alerts

Animal Health is the government's executive agency primarily responsible for ensuring that farmed animals in Great Britain are healthy, disease-free and well looked after, and that risk to public health from animal disease is minimised.

We are also responsible for monitoring the UK 's protection of animals and plants under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.

We rely on others - keepers of animals, private veterinary surgeons and members of the public - to act as our eyes and ears on the ground.

Contact Animal Health as soon as possible if you suspect any of the following circumstances:

Notifiable Disease

  • that an animal is suffering from a notifiable animal disease

Welfare

  • that a farmed animal - either on farm, during transport or at market - is suffering from a lack of adequate care

Illegal imports or possession of wildlife and endangered species

  • the illegal import or possession of an animal or plant species protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
